A artist of dual heritage (his mother was America ad his father -a poet- was Japaese), oguchi ofte foud himself caught 'i betwee' East ad West, as i the wake of the Japaese attack o Pearl Harbor o December 7, 1941 ad the drop of the atomic bomb o Hiroshima that followed. oguchi's art was pioeerig i may respects – he created 'evirometal art' ad 'lad art' almost three decades before the terms were properly itroduced ito the vocabulary of art i the 1960s. His architectural desigs for gardes ad playgrouds offer a ew visio of ladscape architecture, which is decidedly cotemporary ad iformed by evirometal cocers, while his stage desigs for avat-garde dace performaces are without parallel i the history of moder dace.
